Liverpool supporters waved goodbye to a fan favourite in Sadio Mane back in June 2022 as the Senegal international wanted a new experience.

The 31-year-old sealed a move to Bayern Munich after telling Jürgen Klopp about his “desire to leave” Anfield.

BBC Sport Africa quote Mane as saying: “For me, it was the right time. I spoke with the coach (Klopp) one year ago and talked to him about my desire to leave. If you see my story, I came from a small town – my life was always a challenge, so I want to challenge myself all the time.”

Now – less than 12 months into his time at Bayern Munich – things are certainly proving to be a challenge.

What’s the story?

Well, we recently covered a story from German outlet Sport1 which claimed that Bayern Munich are not too happy with their “visibly uncomfortable” £35m signing.

Now, Mane could even be sold.

The Senegalese forward has plunged his own future into uncertainty after remarkably punching Leroy Sane at the Etihad Stadium, as Bayern Munich suffered a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany believes Mane could be fined, suspended or even sold as a result of his actions, with an apology expected to be made in front of teammates today.

The journalist wrote: “He has already arrived the training centre this morning. He was smiling. Bosses have discussed several possible consequences yesterday: fine, suspension, even separation. Team training today at 11am. His apology in front of the team is expected today.”

Mane has scored 11 goals while also providing five assists in 32 appearances this season.

Sadio Mane struggles are sad to see

In our view, it is difficult to see Mane struggling after deciding to move away from somewhere he was adored.

The 31-year-old simply wanted to try something new after six years at Liverpool, but he could hardly have imagined how chaotic things would be at Bayern Munich.

Julian Nagelsmann – the man who signed him – was bizarrely sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern Munich are also out of the DFB-Pokal and, most likely, the UEFA Champions League, while the Bundesliga title is also far from a guarantee as it usually is.

Hopefully, Mane can turn things around for himself in Germany.
