Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon looks to be getting closer, with fans eager to see him back in action after such a long break.

The former two-division UFC champion hasn’t fought since he broke his leg during the trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier back in July 2021.

Since then, a fight with Michael Chandler has been talked about quite a bit. Both were involved in filming The Ultimate Fighter before agreeing to meet at UFC 303 in June 2024.

Fans have been waiting to see who Conor McGregor will face when he finally returns to the UFC.

The Irish fighter hasn’t said who it is yet, but he claims he’s already been given a date and opponent for his comeback.

“I have been offered an opponent and a date, and I accept,” McGregor wrote on social media on Wednesday morning.

He followed up by adding: “Waiting on my contract.”

As he’s done before, McGregor later deleted the post from his X account (formerly known as Twitter).

All eyes are now on Dana White for an official update on what promises to be one of the biggest stories in MMA this year.

McGregor’s contract situation adds delay to UFC return

Sorting out a fight contract for Conor McGregor has become more complicated than it might appear. Earlier this year, the 37-year-old suggested that his existing deal with the UFC was no longer valid following the promotion’s $7.7 billion broadcasting agreement with Paramount.

“I’m going into negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in February,” McGregor said at the time. “I’m very interested to go. They’ve actually got a new deal with Paramount, it’s worth $7.7 billion. So the company has 4xed its profit.”

He continued: “My contract, essentially, is void right now because there’s no more PPV, whereas my contract was based on PPV sales.”

“I’m the highest-generating PPV fighter of all time. The PPV system is done, I’m due a new contract.

“So we’re going into negotiations in February and I’m very interested to see how it goes.”

If those talks resulted in an offer for his comeback opponent and date, then things seem to be moving forward.

The next step is for McGregor to finalise his side of things and make his return official.
