The future of Gary Mackay-Steven remains up in the air. After making just eight Scottish Premiership appearances under Brendan Rodgers last season, it seemed inevitable that the 26-year-old would be leaving Celtic this summer.
According to The Star, Sheffield United are entering another round of negotiations in hope of bringing Mackay-Steven to Bramall Lane this summer.
However, the report adds that Celtic will demand up to £750,000 for a player with two years remaining on his contract – and it’s uncertain whether the newly promoted United will be willing to meet their valuation.
Therefore, this may open the door to Blackburn Rovers. The Star claims that the Lancashire side are interested as Tony Mowbray aims to put together a side capable of bouncing back to the Championship following their relegation last season.

And the deal would certainly make sense at Ewood Park. After all, the Daily Mail claims that Celtic are battling Wolves and Nottingham Forest for 20-year-old winger Connor Mahoney, who is expected to leave with his contract expiring this summer.

The talented youngster could be an astute replacement for Mackay-Steven in Celtic’s squad – and vice versa.
Mahoney’s future is out of Blackburn’s hands but the arrival of the once-capped Scotland international in his place may make the former Accrington Stanley starlet’s departure a lot easier to swallow.
Celtic, meanwhile, could kill two birds with one stone by negotiating with Blackburn this summer. They could get the out-of-favour Mackay-Steven off the club’s books while enhancing their squad with another highly-regarded youngster.
