Aston Villa brought the experienced centre-back to the club in the summer.
Villa ace Conor Hourihane spoke exclusively to the Express & Star, and admitted that he was starstruck when the club signed John Terry in the summer, whilst highlighting the impact that the former Chelsea and England captain has had on the side.
The Villans brought the 37-year-old in on a free transfer in the summer, following the expiration of his contract with Chelsea, and he has proven to be an excellent acquisition for the west Midlands outfit, making 18 Championship appearances, and leading by example with his never say die attitude.
Steve Bruce’s side currently sit in fourth position in the Championship table, just three points adrift of the automatic promotion spots, and with Terry amongst their ranks, they have every chance of finishing inside the top two.
Hourihane, who joined Villa this time last year, offered high words of praise for the 37-year-old, when speaking exclusively to the Express & Star, opening up on how he was starstruck when the former England international joined the club:
“If you can’t learn off him (Terry), then you’re struggling really. When he first signed I was a bit like ‘Jesus, we’ve got John Terry’. I was a bit starstruck. Now he is a team-mate and a friend. To have him in the the dressing room every day, the standards he sets every day is top, top class. It rubs off on other lads. If you don’t feed off it, you never will.”
Next up for Hourihane and co is a trip to sixth placed Sheffield United on Tuesday, and a win will be of paramount importance to their hopes of earning automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season.
