Darwin Nunez’s outrageous finish for Liverpool at the weekend has got many people talking.
Liverpool thrashed error-prone Brentford 4-1, with Darwin Nunez opening the scoring when he was put through on goal and decided to chip the keeper.
That type of finish left Michael Owen amazed and it even resulted in Liverpool’s forward getting criticised amid comparisons with Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund.
But what Conor Coady has noticed about Darwin Nunez when he is running through on goal is how he ‘doesn’t move the ball’, as he told Premier League Productions (19/02/24 at 10:45 pm).
The former Everton man, who is now at Leicester City, shared that strikers he has played with and against would usually move the ball to create an angle when one-v-one with the keeper, but that simply doesn’t happen with Liverpool’s club-record signing.
That unpredictable nature of the 24-year-old’s game is what everyone loves about the player and makes him so dangerous.
There is no doubt that Darwin Nunez has improved compared to last season, with Connor Coady just loving what he did at the weekend.
Darwin Nunez’s finishing
“I watched that back a million times, if he doesn’t pass to Jota, then I am going mad at the back,” said Coady.
“But it’s an incredible finish. At 0-0, it’s a big thing to do. If you score, we all stand there and clap our hands, if it’s the other way around, then he (Michael Owen) is exactly right in what he is saying.
“He is straight on, isn’t he?! He doesn’t move the ball. A lot of the time, strikers and strikers who I have played with, always tend to move the ball at an angle. The keeper is there in front of us, they will move the ball at an angle, the keeper will then move and they will put it on the opposite side and they will open up one side of the goal. He never (does).”

Darwin Nunez is always a big talking point
Whatever Nunez does or doesn’t seem to do, always generates a talking point.
One thing that can’t be denied is that he is entertaining to watch and that will never stop, regardless of your thoughts of him.
As mentioned above, Nunez is improving, with his standout moment probably being those two winners against Newcastle United at the start of the season.
In all competitions, he has scored 13 goals and supplied 11 assists, including 15 goal involvements in the Premier League alone.
