Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Conor Coady has praised Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (10:48pm, November 21, 2021) for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur.
Coady believes that Leeds midfielder Phillips was “outstanding” at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and played well against Spurs striker Harry Kane.
The Wolves defender plays with Phillips and Kane for England.
Coady said: “By the way, I thought Kal was outstanding, especially in the first half. I thought he was brilliant with Kane up top.”
How did Kalvin Phillips play?
Phillips is a defensive midfielder by trade, but Leeds head coach Bielsa decided to start the 25-year-old in defence.
And it worked perfectly.
The England international kept Spurs striker Kane quiet and did not give him much room in the first 45 minutes.

Phillips pushed into midfield in the second half and tried to score himself.
Leeds were the better team in the first half, but Antonio Conte’s Tottenham stepped up their game after the break.
And won 2-1.
Phillips took two shots and one was on target, had a pass accuracy of 83.9%, took 112 touches, and made four tackles and three interceptions.
Phillips is at his best when played in midfield, but he showed against Spurs on Sunday that he can be just as good in defence.
