It wouldn’t come as a surprise that Conor Coady has picked Liverpool’s ice-cool captain, Virgil van Dijk when building his dream Premier League centre-back.
The former Everton star, who is now at Leicester City, had a number of attributes to pick from when building this dream centre-back.
From speed to positioning. Whilst Conor Coady admitted that he could have selected Virgil van Dijk in every single category, in the end, he went for ‘physicality’, as he told Premier League Productions (19/02/24 at 11:20 pm).
There is a reason why Liverpool’s man at the back has been dubbed a Rolls Royce over the years, it’s because he has the lot in his locker.
And there is a big reason why the departing Jurgen Klopp was able to win every single trophy at Anfield, and usurpingly, all those trophies landed once Virgil van Dijk was signed.
The Netherlands international has been an outstanding servant to the club and is a key reason why the team is pushing for four major trophies heading into March.
But it’s also a reason why Conor Coady just had to include him on his list when building his very own dream centre-back.
Virgil van Dijk’s strength
“I think this one was quite easy, a lot of people would say the same with Virgil van Dijk,” said Coady.
“I think Virgil van Dijk would probably go in them all. But I think the size of him and how he defends – just the strength to move people off the ball. The composure he has. The leadership he has. Everything he has got, he plays football to the highest level.
“A fantastic defender. What he has done for Liverpool in the last few years, I think it’s been incredible. The physicality he has in the game. You can see it. An absolutely brilliant defender and I think he was the right one to put into there.”

Virgil van Dijk back to his best
Even van Dijk will admit himself that the previous campaign didn’t go well for him as an individual or Liverpool as a team.
That’s why they finished outside of the Champions League places, but they are hoping to put that right this term.
There is every chance the Reds can win multiple trophies and van Dijk is playing a huge part in it because he is now back to his best.
With Klopp leaving in the summer, he did provide fans with a scare by suggesting he could follow suit, but if the next manager in at Anfield is successful, then he needs van Dijk on board.
