Moutinho has joined Wolves for a bargain £5milion from AS Monaco.
Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady has told BBC Radio 5 Live that he would have “laughed his head off” if you had told him Euro 2016 winner Joao Moutinho would be at Wolves, two years ago.
The 31-year-old Portuguese playmaker joined Wolves in what is arguably one of the most surprising deals of the summer transfer window, in a reported £5million move from French giants AS Monaco.
Moutinho could make his debut for Wolves on Saturday evening, as the newly-promoted Midlands outfit welcome Everton to the Molineux. Fans are optimistic after an excellent transfer window that also saw the club land Rui Patricio.
Coady, 25, remains one of the first names on the team sheet under Nuno Espirito Santo, and he told 5 Live that he would have laughed if someone told him he would be playing and captaining Moutinho two years ago.
“I’d have laughed my head off,” Coady said. “You would though, wouldn’t you. That’s serious. But I think it just goes to show the way the club is going. I really do.
“The way the club wants to improve. When you see new owners come in and actually put money into it you can really kick on. When the manager came it was a real turning point for everybody. It’s exciting times.”
A 113-time Portugal international, Moutinho brings with him a huge wealth of experience and a winning mentality that has seen Wolves land a player with three Portuguese league wins and one with Monaco in France.
He will be relied upon to connect the midfield and attack in a bid to keep Wolves in the Premier League come May next year. He has been given a two-year contract at Wolves.
