John Ruddy has confirmed his Wolves exit when his contract ends after five years at Molineux – and both Conor Coady and Romain Saiss have reacted. Ruddy posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to Wolves fans.
Ruddy, 35, joined Wolves in the summer of 2017 from Norwich City and went on to play all but one of his side’s 46 league games in 2017-18. He kept an impressive 24 clean sheets in those 45 as Wolves gained promotion.
But in the next four seasons, Ruddy has only been afforded 26 appearances at senior level for Wolves. Rui Patricio came to the club after promotion, before being replaced by Jose Sa last summer – with Patricio joining Roma.
The ex-Everton goalkeeper’s contract is up at the end of June and it appears that Wolves have made the decision not to renew his contract. Ruddy posted a touching statement on Instagram, thanking the club and its fans.
Ruddy confirms Wolves exit: Coady and Saiss among those to respond
Ruddy had become a crucial part of the Wolves dressing room and despite his lack of game time, he has been kept at Molineux for that reason. It is unclear where the veteran goalkeeper will end up next, as his new home.
But it is the end of an era for Ruddy, one that has proven to be very successful. A move to a Championship club is likely, or even perhaps north of the border. It also remains to be seen if Wolves will sign a replacement.
Coady and Saiss showed just how much respect they have for Ruddy with responses to the goalkeeper’s post – stating he will be missed. Young striker Fabio Silva also thanked Ruddy for “everything”.
