Connor Wickham’s past comments on Sunderland fans are now very interesting

Sunderland boss Jack Ross is said to be keen to snap up Connor Wickham.

According to TeamTalk, Sunderland want Connor Wickham, but he may take some convincing to move to the Stadium of Light.

Wickham spent four years at Sunderland between 2011 and 2015, but he failed to really impress supporters there.

While Wickham showed flashes of quality with the Black Cats, by the time he had departed, Sunderland fans had seemingly lost patience with him.

Wickham was booed on occasion at Sunderland, and he admitted that he never really understood what the Stadium of Light crowd wanted.

“I’m a million times happier at Palace than at Sunderland,” Wickham said to the Daily Mirror back in November 2015.

“Being booed doesn’t bother me. From the stands everybody plays a perfect game. I don’t know what Sunderland fans were expecting.

“They were quick to judge. I played in a position that wasn’t my natural position or one that I anticipated playing in. But I won’t use those times to bring me down. You have to learn to ignore them.”

Jack Ross may have a lot of persuading to do to convince Wickham that a move back to Sunderland would be good for his career now.

However, Wickham could be a very impressive option at League One level.

Sunderland is also a very different place now to what it was in 2015, with positivity growing at the Stadium of Light, as their side are right in the thick of a promotion battle.
