Swansea City came out on top in the top of the table clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.

Connor Roberts has told Swansea’s official website that Steve Cooper’s side were talking about how getting a point at Leeds would be a brilliant result before they faced Marcelo Bielsa’s side at Elland Road.

A Wayne Routledge goal in the 90th minute saw the Swans go top of the table, leaving Leeds heading into the international break in third place having led the way in the opening stages of this season.

United fans know better than most that no major conclusions can be drawn at this stage of the campaign, but it was a real statement for Swansea to get the victory after coming under a lot of pressure throughout the contest.

And based on Roberts’ recollections of the pre-match discussions amongst the Swansea players, it appears that the result was much better than anyone was anticipating.

“Personally, I didn’t think I played that well but it’s about the team as a whole and not just one person,” he told the club’s official website.

“Before the game, we were saying that a point would be brilliant – let alone a win – so to come away with that result is unbelievable.”

Swansea City manager Steve Cooper celebrates his team's win during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Swansea City at Elland Road on August 31, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Leeds may well be extremely frustrated with their unbeaten start to the season coming to an end. But there were also positives to take from the fixture with Bielsa’s dominating large parts of the game and coming close to finding the back of the net on a few occasions.

With more than enough time to make up for the defeat, the result itself may not be the most disappointing aspect of the game for Leeds.

Instead, the reemergence of the inability to take chances is likely to be weighing heavier on Bielsa’s mind heading into the international break.
