Glasgow Rangers star Connor Goldson suffered physically and mentally in his bid to make the Old Firm at Ibrox.

Rangers fans will be very proud of Connor Goldson for the lengths he went to in order to face Celtic last month.
Goldson, a £3 million summer signing [The Record], was nursing a serious ankle injury up to 48 hours before the Gers’ 1-0 win over Brendan Rodgers’s side at Ibrox on December 29.
But the towering centre-back recovered in time to help Rangers to a big win over Celtic – their first derby win in 13 attempts – but the process of getting fit wasn’t without its drama.
The 26-year-old revealed to the Scottish Sun that he was constantly applying ice to the ankle in a bid to reduce the swelling, and even admitted that he was ‘a little emotional’ at the prospect of not being fit enough to play.
“When I woke up on the Thursday, I couldn’t even get out of bed. I couldn’t walk on it,” he told The Scottish Sun. “I wasn’t happy. I didn’t speak to my missus that morning. I was a little bit emotional.
“She actually said to me ‘You need to get over it. If you’re not going to play, you’re not going to play, it’s not the end of the world’.
“But I knew I had to play. Not for the team, but for me. I wanted to play in that game. I did everything I could to make it. I iced it 24/7 and tried to do everything I could to get it moving. Even in the warm-up, I wasn’t great.”

You could argue that many Rangers players of recent years simply haven’t cared enough about the Celtic meetings, hence why they got destroyed in quite a few of them.
But it’s abundantly obvious that Goldson does care and his effort to get himself fit is testament to that.
The former Brighton man has been questioned at times this season for his defending, but few can question his attitude in light of what he did to make the Old Firm clash.
