Glasgow Rangers have faced a lot of criticism in recent weeks, with the Ibrox side without a win in their last four.

In comments reported by the Daily Record, Connor Goldson has suggested that any player within the Rangers squad that cannot handle criticism should think about leaving as Steven Gerrard’s side look to continue their progress.

The last couple of weeks have arguably taken the shine off what has threatened to be a brilliant first season for the Gers boss. They were knocked out of the Scottish Cup at the quarter-final stage and now sit 10 points back of the Scottish Premiership summit.

It has been a campaign that has promised a lot. Some of Rangers’ displays in the Europa League were outstanding, and they have been within touching distance of Celtic at times throughout the season.

But the last fortnight has left Rangers with little chance of winning any silverware this term, and with that, there has been a lot of criticism from the supporters as the Gers go into the Old Firm game after the international break looking for their first win in five in all competitions.

However, Goldson seemed to suggest that the squad could have few complaints about the criticism that they are getting, and warned his teammates that they can either take it on board or leave the club.

“I don’t go back after a draw thinking it’s a good result. I’ve bought straight into the mentality here that you need to win every game and if you don’t you’ll come under criticism,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record. “That’s the thing you have to accept, playing for a big club.

“We’ve all signed here wanting to be a part of this club and a part of the success it brings. So it’s up to us and the coaches to bring that here. If you’re not up for that or can’t handle the criticism, then it’s not for you.”

It is not difficult to see why so many Rangers fans feel deflated. There has been so much promise, but, in terms of trophies, they are likely set to finish the campaign no better off than the last two years. So Goldson’s message may please some of the supporters who wish to see a reaction.
