Glasgow Rangers defender Connor Goldson is the Ibrox side’s most recent signing.

Connor Goldson has told The Argus that he was initially unsure about the idea of moving to Scotland when he heard that Rangers wanted to sign him this summer.

Goldson became Steven Gerrard’s sixth signing of the summer, as he followed the likes of Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy, Ovie Ejaria and Nikola Katic by completing a £3 million switch to the Gers – fee reported by the Daily Record.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It is perhaps a deal that few would have expected before the summer began, and it appears that Goldson himself had given no previous consideration to the idea of making the move to Rangers before Gerrard reached out to him about leaving Brighton.

“I wasn’t sure about going to Scotland at first. I’d always thought about going into the Championship, I’d never thought about Scotland,” he told The Argus.

“When they came in I had to think about it, because they are such a big club.

“Obviously, the new manager was a big pull, his plans for the team and what he wanted to do. He wants to narrow the gap between them and Celtic. It just became a big opportunity.”

Having been an understudy for much of his time with the Seagulls, Goldson will be hoping that he can establish himself as a key man at Ibrox as the fee spent on him certainly suggests that Gerrard will plan to build his defence around him, and perhaps give him a crucial role amongst the squad.

And he will be looking to prove during his time with the Gers that the club were right to make him one of their most expensive signings for a very long time.
