John Terry has expressed his delight on Instagram at the news that Jack Wilshere has been appointed as Arsenal’s new U18s coach.
Days after retiring at the age of 30, Wilshere is wasting no time in looking at the next chapter in his career, as he is now going to try and help the youngsters fulfil their dreams of becoming professional footballers.
The former midfielder shared on Instagram that he is ‘absolutely honoured’ to be given such an opportunity by the club and he is ‘back where I belong’.
In the comments section to that appointment, John Terry posted ‘congratulations and good luck mate’, whilst Charlie Patino and Danny Welbeck reacted with emojis.
NEW CHAPTER IN WILSHERE’S CAREER
During the first part of last season, Wilshere was in Arsenal colours, training with the first team, as well as helping coach the younger players.
At the time, he was still playing and looking for a new home to play his football, before he recently decided to call it a day in his career.
That experience of training the youngsters would have helped him in good stead heading into the role full-time, as he begins a new chapter in his career.
The former England international understands what it is like breaking through as a fresh-faced teenager, making your debut at such a young age and having so much pressure being put on your shoulders.
It will be interesting to see if, down the line, Wilshere decides to become a first-team manager because he has plenty of years in his tank to build himself towards that moment.
But it’s no longer about running proceedings in the middle of the park for Wilshere, but ensuring the next crop of rising stars can take their game to the next level.
