Conflicting reports are emerging about Rangers’ alleged interest in Martin Skrtel.

Rangers have already added two signings this summer and are looking for more in order to boost Steven Gerrard’s squad, but confusion surrounds another target.
The Gers have added Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield on pre-contract agreements, with more experience seemingly targeted with a move for Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel.
Skrtel, 33, has been linked with a move to Rangers ever since Gerrard’s appointment, and The Scottish Sun reported on Tuesday that a £2.7million move to sign the Slovakian was on the verge of completion.
Having played together for Liverpool, this seemed like the perfect transfer; but reports from both The Express and the Glasgow Evening Times have stated that Skrtel will not be joining Rangers this summer, leaving fans confused.

If Rangers are missing out on Skrtel – or never even targeted him in the first place – then they need to press ahead with the additions of centre backs quickly, in order to avoid being caught short at the back.
David Bates is heading to Hamburg this summer, Russell Martin has returned to Norwich following the end of his loan spell, Bruno Alves’ future is in doubt and Fabio Cardoso has yet to impress, meaning Rangers are in desperate need of central defensive help.
Brighton’s Connor Goldson and Swansea’s Kyle Bartley have both been strongly linked with moves to Ibrox, and they may even be better signings than Skrtel, even if they don’t possess his experience.
The two defenders are approaching their prime, and having already brought in two players in their 30’s, signing two centre backs aged 26 and 27 respectively may be a better investment anyway – but with the Skrtel situation unclear right now, Rangers need to get a move on and equip Gerrard with defenders sooner rather than later.
