Charles Watts has shared that it’s unlikely that Charlie Patino will sign a new contract at Arsenal.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Championship side, Swansea City, where he has three assists and one goal from his nine games.

Arsenal transfer expert Charles Watts shared that it was a ‘confusing’ summer for Charlie Patino because there was an ‘agreement’ that he would leave for good.

But that didn’t happen, and instead, he was told to go back on loan again, where he is making a ‘big impression’, as he told Inside Arsenal.

When Charlie Patino returns to the Emirates Stadium next summer, he will have 12 months remaining on his contract.

So, he either signs a new deal or heads for the exit door on a permanent basis, with Charles Watts sharing that the player himself is unsure about putting pen to paper.

Charlie Patino’s contract at Arsenal

“He is over at Swansea, playing in the Championship and has had a good start,” said Watts. “He has got a goal and three assists. He is making a big impression, he just got awarded the Swansea Goal of the Month.

“It was a difficult summer for Patino. Probably a confusing summer more than a difficult summer. There was an agreement between all parties that ‘okay, we are going to let him go permanently to try and kick on his career because there isn’t any sort of pathway at Arsenal’.

“Then, as the summer went on, opinions and minds started to change, then it was decided ‘okay, you can go out on loan’. No new deal has been signed, or anything like that, so when he comes back in the summer, he is only going to have a year left on his contract.

“All the options are available to Charlie. Arsenal do like Charlie Patino. But they aren’t going to hold a player back if they don’t think he is going to be close to the first team. For Patino, and his people, it’s the thought of ‘why would they sign a long-term contract now’, which is going to have to happen if he is going to stay, why would they do that if there isn’t a pathway?”

Charlie Patino should leave

Arsenal are going to levels that Patino just isn’t at, so a call needs to be made where he should leave for good.

This isn’t a case of the midfield technician not progressing, but Arsenal, now chasing the Premier League title, taking their levels to seriously high heights during these past two years.

When Arsenal have the likes of Jorginho, Fabio Vieira and Kai Havertz as players still trying to cement regular starts, then the sign is pretty clear that Patino needs to leave.
