Meanwhile, former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has suggested that Dele Alli’s future at Tottenham looks bleak.
The England international midfielder started against Antwerp on Thursday evening, but the 24-year-old was taken off at half time.
Parlour believes that Alli did not play well, and that Mourinho’s decision not to make use of him much this season will have been vindicated.
The former Arsenal midfielder told talkSPORT: “The media have been asking Jose Mourinho why he isn’t picking him… that’s why. He’s not performing, it’s very simple.
“I don’t know where he goes from here. His confidence is low. Every footballer has gone through it where you’re having a bad time, and you’ve just got to keep training and working hard and hopefully your form will turn around.
“But he’s really low at the moment. He’s got to be careful because he set his bar so high as a young man when he first got his opportunity. His stats were unbelievable, better than Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard! But suddenly he’s come to that crossroads in his career.”
