Here is how Southampton and Newcastle United will line up this afternoon:
Southampton welcome Newcastle United to St. Mary’s this afternoon for their first match since the latest international break.
The Saints are currently 12th in the Premier League table with eight points from their first seven matches, while today’s opponents Newcastle are two points and three places better off as things stand.
Southampton will be quietly confident of getting another three points on the board later today, although they will not be taking Newcastle lightly, with the Magpies possessing the players to cause them plenty of problems.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez quietly and effectively built a side capable of challenging at the right end of the table over the summer, although his failure to sign a prolific striker and apparent lack of faith in some of the forwards already at the club raises questions for the challenges ahead.
Whoever wins this match should take that confidence forward into the second half of the month but it would not be a surprise if this game ended in a draw.
Only time will tell, but expect an exciting encounter with two sets of players eager to impress.
