Scotland kick off their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign this evening as they take on Malta at the Ta’Qali National Stadium in Attard.
With no major tournament appearances in 18 years, Scotland will be hoping to finally make it through a qualifying group, and will be looking for a strong start as they take on Malta.
Gordon Strachan has a strong squad at his disposal this evening, and he’s gone with Hull City’s new signing David Marshall in goal ahead of Craig Gordon and Hearts youngster Jack Hamilton.
Another Hearts youngster, Callum Paterson, starts at right back, and is joined in defence by Grant Hanley, Russell Martin and Andrew Robertson.
Darren Fletcher will lead the midfield, and is joined by new RB Leipzig signing Oliver Burke, who is now Scotland’s most expensive footballer of all time after his £13m move last week.
Hanley’s Newcastle team-mate Matt Ritchie also starts out wide, with Robert Snodgrass and Chris Martin also in attack as Scotland appear to be going for an attack-minded line-up tonight.
The bench features the likes of Alan Hutton, Ikechi Anya, James Forrest, Steven Fletcher, Steven Naismith and Rangers youngster Barrie McKay.
