Confirmed Rangers v Motherwell lineups: Toral and linked-away forwards all start

Rangers host Motherwell at Ibrox this afternoon.

Rangers take on Motherwell in the Scottish Cup this afternoon, as they take to the field in competitive action for the first time since losing to Celtic on New Year’s Eve.

During the lengthy break, Rangers went to Germany to take on Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig, but were on the wrong end of a 4-0 thrashing.

That game saw Jon Toral make his debut for the club having joined on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season, and he starts again this afternoon as he’s handed his competitive bow for the club.

Lee Wallace returns at left back following injury, and joins Clint Hill, Rob Kiernan and Lee Hodson in defence, ahead of goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

Jason Holt and Andy Halliday join Toral in midfield, whilst Barrie McKay and Michael O’Halloran – linked with January moves away from Ibrox in recent days – will flank Kenny Miller in attack.

New arrival Emerson Hyndman is only on the bench, alongside David Bates, Philippe Senderos, Martyn Waghorn, Harry Forrester, Josh Windass and backup goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

Meanwhile, Motherwell’s danger man Louis Moult leads the line, having hit 11 goals in 18 games so far this season.

Mark McGhee has gone with Craig Samson over Dean Brill in goal, whilst there are starts for the likes of Chris Cadden, Keith Lasley and Carl McHugh, as well as former Celtic ace Stephen McManus.

Another ex-Bhoy is on the bench in Scott McDonald, and he’s joined as a substitute by winger Lionel Ainsworth and striker Ryan Bowman among others, including backup goalkeeper Brill.
