Mark Warburton’s marquee signing for Rangers in the summer has departed Ibrox.

Rangers and Joey Barton have finally parted ways after weeks of speculation over his future at the club.

Barton was signed by Mark Warburton in the summer after his excellent season at Burnley. He joined Rangers on a free transfer and quickly went about ruffling feathers at Ibrox.

Unfortunately for him things did not pan out in the long run in Glasgow.

Following a 5-1 loss to Celtic in the Old Firm derby Barton was involved in a training ground spat and was suspended by the club. He briefly returned to train with the youth team but swiftly departed the club yet again.

Now the club have confirmed that Barton has left Rangers by mutual consent and that no further comment would be made from either party for the time being:

Rangers boss Warburton was known to have high hopes of building his team around Barton’s presence in the midfield but the often-volatile midfielder simply failed to settle in Glasgow and this is now the best course of action for both parties going forward.

Barton will now be looking to find a new team whilst Rangers will hope to bring in a new face in January.
