Rangers kick off their Europa League group stage campaign tonight.

Rangers starting line-up: McGregor; Tavernier, Goldson, Worrall, Barisic; Halliday, Coulibaly, Arfield; Candeias, Kent, Lafferty.

Rangers substitutes: Foderingham, Katic, Grezda, Dorrans, McCrorie, Middleton, Sadiq.

The Gers saw off Shkupi, Osijek, Maribor and Ufa over the course of their qualifying campaign this summer, with new manager Steven Gerrard guiding the club into the group stage.

Rangers are handed a tough game in their first group stage outing, as they travel to Spain to take on Villarreal, who finished fifth in La Liga last season under Javier Calleja.

Tonight, Gerrard has had to deal with a number of absences, but goalkeeper Allan McGregor keeps his place between the sticks ahead of Wes Foderingham.

James Tavernier and Borna Barisic line up as the full backs, but Connor Goldson’s partnership with Nikola Katic has been broken, as he is joined by fellow Englishman Joe Worrall in defence, with the Nottingham Forest loanee making a surprise debut.

Andy Halliday comes into midfield with Ryan Jack out injured, whilst Lassana Coulibaly has been passed fit to play and features alongside Scott Arfield ahead of Halliday.

Ryan Kent and Daniel Candeias start out wide in Gerrard’s 4-3-3 setup, whilst Kyle Lafferty leads the line as Alfredo Morelos is suspended, with Umar Sadiq on the bench.

Katic, Sadiq and Foderingham are joined by fellow substitutes Eros Grezda, Graham Dorrans, Ross McCrorie and Glenn Middleton in Spain tonight.
