Rangers play their first league game under Steven Gerrard today as they travel to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen to open up the new season.
The Gers drew 1-1 with Croatian side Osijek in the Europa League qualifiers on Thursday, sending them into the next round with a 2-1 aggregate win, and fans will be hoping for a strong performance today.
Gerrard knows he must attempt to challenge Celtic this season, and after the Bhoys opened their season with a 3-1 home win over Livingston, Rangers will be looking to ensure they don’t slip points behind Brendan Rodgers’ men early on.
Allan McGregor unsurprisingly starts having been first-choice throughout Gerrard’s reign, whilst the now-familiar back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Jon Flanagan start in front of him.
Ryan Jack returns to face his former club as he features in midfield, with new signings Lassana Coulibaly and Scott Arfield either side of him, given the license to get up and down the pitch.
Josh Windass and Jamie Murphy feature out wide, with Alfredo Morelos leading the attack after two goals in his last three games, with the Colombian no doubt keen to start the season well, just as he did last term.
That means that new striker Umar Sadiq is only on the bench, alongside Jak Alnwick, Andy Halliday, Ross McCrorie, Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent and Daniel Candeias.
