Confirmed Newcastle v Nottingham Forest lineups: Barlaser starts, Joselu on the bench

Newcastle United host Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup this evening.

Newcastle will be hoping to pick up their first win of the new season as they take on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup this evening.

The Magpies have started the Premier League campaign with two defeats, losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur and 1-0 to Huddersfield Town as Rafael Benitez’s men have made a slow start to the season.

Tonight, Benitez has made a host of changes to his side in a bid to find a result against Championship side Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

Karl Darlow starts in goal in place of Rob Elliot, which Jesus Gamez, Jamie Sterry, Grant Hanley and Chancel Mbemba form a defence, with Mbemba the only player of the four to have featured this season.

Henri Saivet, Daniel Barlaser and Mohamed Diame feature in midfield, whilst Jacob Murphy and Rolando Aarons will support lone striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The likes of Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo are all dropped to the bench, with Freddie Woodman and Achraf Lazaar joining new signing Joselu as substitutes too.

Meanwhile, Forest have been going well in the Championship, picking up three wins from four games to sit fourth in the table – a marked improvement under Mark Warburton having narrowly avoided relegation last season.

Warburton has gone with Jordan Smith in goal again this evening, with Eric Lichaj, Michael Mancienne, Joe Worrall and Danny Fox across the back four.

Andreas Bouchalakis, Ben Osborn and Kieran Dowell start in midfield, with Zach Clough and Ben Brereton seemingly called upon to support Jason Cummings in attack.

That means that former Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy is only on the bench following his summer move to Forest, and he is joined by fellow substitutes Dimitar Evtimov, Jack Hobbs, Tendayi Darikwa, Armand Traore, Barrie McKay and Tyler Walker.
