Liverpool take on Wolves in the fourth round of the FA Cup this afternoon…
Liverpool will be hoping to pick up just their second win of 2017 as they take on Championship side Wolves at Anfield today.
The Reds have struggled of late, losing two home games in the last week to Swansea and Southampton, and their only win in 2017 came in an FA Cup replay against Plymouth Argyle having drawn the first game 0-0 at Anfield.
Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat to Southampton dumped Liverpool out of the EFL Cup, and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for better fortunes today in the FA Cup – but he has rotated his side this afternoon.
Loris Karius starts in goal again having impressed against Southampton, whilst Connor Randall and Alberto Moreno will play as full backs with Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan at centre back.
Lucas Leiva will sit in front of the back four, with Georgino Wijnaldum and Ovie Ejaria further ahead of him, whilst Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and teenager Ben Woodburn will start in attack.
James Milner, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho are all on the bench, along with Harry Wilson, Kevin Stewartm Emre Can and backup goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Meanwhile, Wolves are looking for another cup upset having dumped Premier League side Stoke City out in the last round, though the did lose to Norwich City 3-1 in their last Championship game.
Manager Paul Lambert often visited former club Borussia Dortmund – then managed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp – to observe training sessions, and the two go head-to-head today.
Lambert has been forced to name 20-year-old goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne in goal with Carl Ikeme suspended, with the youngster chosen ahead of substitute keeper Andy Lonergan.
New signing Andreas Weimann starts in attack, whilst Helder Costa – heavily linked with a move to the Premier League – is also in the side, along with Richard Stearman, George Saville, Nouha Dicko and former Liverpool youngster Conor Coady.
That means that the likes of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Joe Mason and Danny Batth are all on the bench, along with youngsters Bright Enobakhare, Connor Ronan and Morgan Gibbs-White.
