Liverpool and Crystal Palace face off in the Premier League Asia Trophy this afternoon, with Eagles boss Frank de Boer getting an early chance to see what his new players can do against top flight English opposition.

The Dutchman’s arrival has excited Palace fans who feel they could be in for a very exciting campaign, with plenty of new faces set to arrive and an innovative manager at the helm.

Liverpool also have one of those in the form of Jurgen Klopp, and while Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah are the only new Reds signings to date, they will be hoping to add more in the next few weeks, as will Palace.

Whoever comes out victorious today will face off against West Bromwich Albion or Leicester City in the final of a tournament that is far more about building match fitness and carrying out a manager’s plans than it is about the silverware on offer.

De Boer watched as a young Palace side overcame Maidstone United last weekend, but now it is all about getting his senior players up to scratch to ensure they hit the ground running next month.

Liverpool are back in the Champions League next season and will need a few more new faces in order to challenge both domestically and in Europe. That said, the players already at their disposal will be hoping to use the next two matches to prove their worth.
