Leeds United will be looking to maintain their challenge for a top-two finish in the Championship this season when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road this evening.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will head into the match against Wednesday on the back of a 2-0 victory over Preston North End away from home at Deepdale in the league.

Leeds are a point clear of third-placed Sheffield United, and automatic promotion is in their hands.

Meanwhile, Wednesday are out of the running for a top-two spot in the standings, but under manager Steve Bruce, the Owls have revived their chances of ending up in the playoffs.

Wednesday will head into the match against Leeds on the back of a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at home in the Championship.

Leeds legend Eddie Gray has given his take on how Wednesday could play today, and told LUTV: “They can score goals. I think Steve Bruce will send them out to go and play and I think they’ll try and do that.

“I think they will have right go at us and I don’t think you will see them sitting back and try to hold us for the first 20 minutes. They know they have to score goals to win the game and they will have a go at us. And that suits us.”

Meanwhile, Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear has taken a dig at the omission of the club’s attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez from the EFL Championship Team of the Year.

Kinnear wrote in the Leeds matchday programme for today’s match, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Liam and Kalvin richly deserved their inclusion but I shared the consternation of many fans that Pablo was omitted.

“However, on seeking clarification from the EFL around the integrity of the voting process it was explained that to qualify for selection a nominee has to play his football on the same planet as the rest of the division.”
