Just a few days ago, the more optimistic of Manchester City fans would have been talking (or perhaps whispering) about the prospect of an unprecedented quadruple. But following two cup exits in the space of just four days, the Blues’ focus is now solely on the Premier League.
Win their games in hand and Manuel Pellegrini’s men will be top of the pile. But that is easier said than done and most clubs would rather have the points on the board over the games on an already-cluttered fixture list.
Hull City can recall their new-look strike-force of Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long after both were ineligible for last weekend’s FA Cup victory over Sunderland. And while a trip to Wembley is now on the horizon for Steve Bruce’s men, they will know they need a few more victories to ensure league safety is secured with time to spare.
City have not won a league match away to the Tigers in their last seven attempts, but saying that Hull have won just one of their last seven league games at the KC Stadium. So a scoring-draw may appear the most likely outcome.
