England open their World Cup qualifying campaign against Slovakia this evening as Sam Allardyce takes charge for the first time.
The Three Lions lost to Iceland in embarrassing fashion as they crashed out of Euro 2016 over the summer, costing former manager Roy Hodgson his job – and Allardyce will now be looking to start his reign with a win in Trnava this evening.
England’s team hasn’t changed too much since that defeat to Iceland, as four Tottenham players start in Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Harry Kane, all of whom started against Iceland.
Joe Hart keeps his place in goal despite losing his spot at Manchester City before joining Torino on deadline day, whilst City defender John Stones and winger Raheem Sterling both start having made impressive starts to the season.
Wayne Rooney captains the side and is joined in the starting line-up by the likes of Gary Cahill, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana.
West Ham winger Michail Antonio is in line for his debut having been called up for the first time, and is joined on the bench by the likes of Chris Smalling, Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli.
England and Slovakia only met a couple of months ago at Euro 2016, with the two sides playing out a 0-0 draw – and Allardyce will be hoping for much better than that this evening.
