Celtic’s development squad take on St. Johnstone this evening, and here is how they line up.
Celtic development squad starting XI: Fasan; Breslin, Kelleher, McCart, Blackett; McManus, Thomson; Murray, Hendry, Boerrigter; Ciftci
Celtic development squad Subs: McCabe, Higgins, Miller, Payne, McIlduff, Archibald, Lafferty.
Celtic youngsters – and fringe players – will be hoping to make an impact tonight as the Bhoys’ development squad take on St. Johnstone.
Ronny Deila’s first team beat Inverness 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, but now there is a great opportunity for some up-and-coming players to stake a claim for a first-team role, as well as some of the out-of-favour players.
The biggest name in the team tonight is that of Nadir Ciftci. The 24-year-old forward joined the Bhoys from Dundee United over the summer, but has had very little impact so far, and needs to gain both fitness and confidence, hopefully with a strong display tonight.
Another summer signing features as defender Tyler Blackett – who was slammed for his performance against Malmo in the Champions League last month – is handed a start at left back, with the Manchester United loanee needing to show Deila what he can do.
Dutch winger Derk Boerrigter, a forgotten man at Celtic due to his crippling injury problems, also starts tonight, whilst youngsters such as Leo Fasan and Fiacre Kelleher are also in the starting line-up too.
