Confirmed Burnley v Newcastle lineups: Merino out, Diame starts

Burnley host Newcastle United in the Premier League this evening…

Burnley head into tonight’s game having lost 3-0 away at Manchester City in their last outing, and will be looking to bounce back at Turf Moor this evening.

The Clarets have won just once at home this season, and Sean Dyche will be hoping for much better when his side takes on Newcastle.

Nick Pope continues in goal in place of the injured Tom Heaton, whilst Matthew Lowton, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee and Stephen Warnock make up the back four.

Jack Cork, Steven Defour and Jeff Hendrick make up the three in midfield, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady providing width on the flanks.

Ashley Barnes is given the nod in attack with Chris Wood unavailable, though fellow strikers Sam Vokes and Nahki Wells are both named on the bench.

Anders Lindegaard, Phil Bardsley, Kevin Long, Scott Arfield and Ashley Westwood make up the rest of the Burnley substitutes as the Clarets chase three points.

Meanwhile, Newcastle claimed a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend to keep their strong start to the season going, and Rafael Benitez will want a repeat tonight.

Rob Elliot keeps his place in goal tonight, with DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo starting across the back four.

Mikel Merino misses out through injury, and Mohamed Diame has been given the nod to start in midfield alongside Jonjo Shelvey.

Christian Atsu, Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie all start again, supporting Joselu in the final third as usual.

Diame’s start means that Isaac Hayden is only on the bench, and is joined by Karl Darlow, Ciaran Clark, Jesus Gamez, Henri Saivet, Jacob Murphy and Dwight Gayle.
