Bolton Wanderers have announced that former Celtic manager Neil Lennon will take over from Dougie Freedman at the Macron Stadium.
Bolton Wanderers have this afternoon announced the appointment of former Celtic manager Neil Lennon as their new boss following the sacking of Dougie Freedman last month.
It’s been a dreadful few years for Bolton, who suffered relegation under Owen Coyle in 2012 before struggling for results upon returning to the Championship. Coyle was sacked just two months into the 2012/13 season as the Trotters appointed Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman, but he’s fared even worse, somehow keeping his job for two years before being sacked earlier this month having picked up just five points from the first ten games of the season.
A 4-0 defeat at Fulham was the final straw for Freedman, who was sacked just two days later. A number of names were linked with the job, including Tony Mowbray, Paolo di Canio and Chris Hughton, whilst other former Bolton figures like Mixu Paatelainen and Phil Brown were also reported targets.
However, they finally made their appointment today as former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been named as the new man in the hot seat.
The 43-year-old former Northern Ireland international won three SPL titles and two Scottish Cups since taking over as manager at Celtic Park from the aforementioned Mowbray in 2010. Always an enthusiastic and energetic character during his time as manager of Celtic, Lennon is now expected to drag the Trotters away from the relegation zone – especially having left Celtic with a 70% win percentage in the summer.
Lennon will bring assistant manager Johan Mjallby and first team coach Garry Parker to the Macron Stadium, with his first game in charge away at Birmingham City next weekend.
