Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce can do his boyhood heroes Newcastle United a huge favour by beating their title rivals Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park this afternoon.
Brighton must equal Newcastle’s result at home to Barnsley to clinch the Championship crown, despite finding themselves seven points clear little under three weeks ago.
On paper, a Villa side with only 11th place to play for – and no 19-goal talisman Jonathan Kodjia – would seem like ideal opposition.
However, Bruce and his assistant Colin Calderwood – who quit Brighton for the Villans earlier in the campaign – will perhaps have something to say about that.
Neither side go into the game on form, with Villa having won just one of their last five fixtures and Brighton suffering back-to-back defeats.
Here’s how the two teams line up…
