Aston Villa’s relegation to the Championship does not seem to have dented their ambition. The club made a shock move to sign Amadou Diawara from Bologna this summer.
The Guinean international was, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the subject of a successful €17m (£14.7m) bid for his services from Aston Villa.

It looked then, for a while, that Villa might actually pull off one of the biggest Championship transfer coups. His agent even confirmed Villa’s bid, as quoted by talkSPORT.
However, that will clearly not be the case – because Diawara was officially unveiled as a Napoli player earlier today.
Napoli were always considered one of the front-runners to sign the player this summer and they revealed he was now a fully-fledged Partenopei player on their Twitter account earlier today:
Aston Villa have already moved to strengthen their central midfield area this summer.
Aaron Tshibola and Mile Jedinak have both been brought in from Reading and Crystal Palace respectively this summer and whilst Diawara would have been a great signing, Villa could spend that money in more needed areas before the transfer window shuts.
