Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Newcastle United and their interest in Moussa Diaby.

The French winger has been linked with the Magpies for quite some time now. The Telegraph stated that he was the Tyneside club’s top target last month, but, as of yet, no headway has been made on that front

However, according to Bailey, Newcastle have been doing a bit of background work on this signing, and he’s led to believe that the Magpies are confident that they can get this deal done.

What’s been said?

Bailey spoke about Diaby potentially joining Newcastle.

“Yeah, Moussa Diaby is the next player on the radar of Newcastle, they’ve already had a busy summer getting Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett, we know they have the likes of Saint-Maximin , but they’re looking to upgrade and Diaby would be a significant upgrade on someone like Saint-Maximin. He is a wonderful player, this guy is special. 13 goals and 12 assists last season in the Bundesliga,” Bailey said.

“This guy is a really good player. Newcastle have done a bit of background work on this, they think they can get him out. I’ve been told a club-record deal, about £45m might do it, maybe £50m, but there is a bit of confidence here in this one, they think they can do it.”

Coup

This would be a serious coup for Newcastle.

As Bailey says, Diaby is a wonderful player. He’s made a massive impact for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season and he’d be well worth a club-record fee.

Newcastle are confident that they can sign Diaby, and if they can get this one over the line, the rest of the Premier League should be on alert as Eddie Howe’s side will have secured one of the most exciting wingers in Europe.
