Chris Sutton has stated that Gini Wijnaldum has been a ‘big, big loss’ to Liverpool, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Premier League title-winner suggested that Liverpool leaking goals is a ‘concern’ for Jurgen Klopp, but not a ‘big concern’.

Liverpool and Wijnaldum parted ways in the summer when his contract at Anfield expired.

He is now donning the colours of PSG in France and recently scored a brace in the Champions League for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Given the consistency levels the 30-year-old had in the middle of the park, including not getting injured, his void is now pretty clear to see.

And Sutton touched upon Liverpool letting go of Wijnaldum after they conceded three at the weekend to West Ham.

“I think Wijnaldum’s a big, big loss,” said Sutton. “I don’t want to go too early on this because it’s clearly not ideal.

“I think the Wijnaldum thing is the biggest deal in all of this. But had Alisson played better against West Ham, then they keep a clean sheet.

“So, maybe we are looking at something and not being really fair to Liverpool. It’s not as good as last year. But they aren’t a disaster.

Liverpool conceded three to Brentford this season, lost a two-goal lead to Brighton and conceded three once again over the weekend.

But they have also had their fair share of strong moments, including wiping the floor with Man United and easily seeing off teams like Crystal Palace and Burnley.

That absolute high bar that Liverpool set is not there, but Virgil van Dijk is still trying to get back to his best and fans will be hoping it’s a case of they will get better as the season goes on.

At this rate, they won’t be holding that Premier League title aloft, but trophies aren’t won in November.
