New Celtic signing Marvin Compper has told the Daily Record that he believes Brendan Rodgers’ side would finish between fifth and seventh in the German Bundesliga.

Compper, 32, finally completed his £1million move to Brendan Rodgers’ side on January 1 after he could not join up with his new teammates until the January transfer window had officially opened.

Putting pen to paper on a three-year deal, the one-time Germany international could make his Celtic debut on January 20 as the Hoops play host to Brechin City in the Scottish Cup.

Compper was asked what he thought of Celtic and how they would fare in the top tier of German football, giving an honest but fair answer of just above mid-table in a league that possesses 18 sides.

“I’ve got a very good feeling signing for Celtic. The team plays similar to Leipzig – no senseless balls forward, and plenty of pressing,” Compper said.

Asked how Rodgers’ side would fair in the top tier of German football, Compper replied: “They would be in places five to seven. My family and I are looking forward to a career in Glasgow.”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Compper was signed by Rodgers after the former Swansea and Liverpool boss identified that a new centre-back was required, one with experience as they look to go on a Europa League run after Christmas.

Celtic still have more than a fortnight remaining during the winter break, as they continue their dominance in Scottish football with a Scottish League Cup under wraps and sitting eight points clear at the top of the league.
