Mikel Arteta has suggested that he is seeing an excellent partnership developing between Kieran Tierney and Granit Xhaka on the left-hand side of the pitch for Arsenal.

Arteta was once again speaking very positively about Xhaka last night at his press conference, which was covered by Football London.

The Arsenal boss feels that Xhaka is an important part of his first-team.

And when him and Tierney line-up near each other, he thinks that they have a very good partnership building.

“Well on that left side he gives you something that he has unique qualities to do that, considering as well the qualities we have in our left back position with Kieran,” he said.

“And it’s good because they compliment each other really, really well.

“We can tweak it and do it in different ways but it’s not only about his qualities as a player but the character and the personality that he brings to the team every time he steps in.”

Xhaka has now been an important player for Arsenal under multiple different managers, despite not always been the most popular member of the squad with some supporters.

He is enjoying an excellent run of form of late, and could well feature alongside Tierney this evening.

The Scottish full-back has been struggling with injury recently, but is expected to start again for Arsenal later.

The Gunners take on Benfica in the Europa League this evening, as they look to progress to the next round.
