Cesc Fabregas told talkSPORT that Patrick Vieira will play ‘completely the opposite’ to Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace.

Palace confirmed on Sunday that they have opted to appoint the France legend as their new coach.

From being a Premier League legend out on the pitch, Vieira is hoping to now make a name for himself in the dugout.

Fabregas came up against Vieira in France when he managed Nice, as he shared what style of play he will bring to Selhurst Park.

“He will definitely change the way they have been playing,” said Fabregas. “Under Roy, I think it was a very direct team.

“They used to defend with a low block. 4-4-2. Straightforward. Typical English football. But very effective. I think they did well under Roy.

“But with Patrick, and having been here (in France) for a few years and played against him (Monaco v Nice) a few times, it’s completely the opposite idea.

“Patrick likes to play football out from the back. He likes to take a lot of risks. When we used to analyse their games we decided to press high because they were really taking risks.

“He wants to play no matter what. He has got ideas. Fair play to him. I am a fan of him and hopefully, he can bring a new style to Palace.”

This is an uphill task facing Vieira at Palace and he is already on the back foot before he can walk through the doors.

Not only does he have to try and fill Hodgson’s shoes, but he only has 14 players contracted to the club, at this moment in time.

An overhaul is needed this summer, or a serious amount of faces need to be brought in, else Palace will be one of the favourites for the drop before a ball can be kicked.
