Tony Adams has slammed Arsenal defender Gabriel for potentially costing his side a goal in the 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Saturday.

Almost immediately after Arsenal made it 2-0 through Bukayo Saka, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th Premier League goal with an excellent cushioned finish past Aaron Ramsdale.

However, the Portugal international found himself in far too much space, between Gabriel and Nuno Tavares, who opened the scoring.

And Adams, a legendary Gunners’ centre-back, has accused the Brazilian powerhouse of ‘completely not doing his job’.

He told Premier League Productions: “You’re spot on. Gabriel is so concerned about Ronaldo that he’s completely not done his job. The space is the most important there and Ronaldo kept on working him away.”

It’s worth pointing out that Gabrel did his job brilliantly earlier in the first half, when he provided a stunning block to prevent a certain Bruno Fernandes goal following some sloppy play by Ramsdale.

However, Adams is right – this too was sloppy by Gabriel.

The former Lille defender, a £27 million signing in 2020, has been heavily linked with a transfer to Barcelona in recent weeks.

But the Camp Nou outfit might have reservations based on his performance against the Red Devils, which was good, but probably not good enough to warrant such a massive move away.
