Jamie Mackie says Son Heung-min is going to be a ‘completely different player’ for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the forthcoming Premier League season.

The former QPR player stated that Son Heung-min ‘wasn’t the Son we know’, but he thinks that’s now going to change, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports News (08/08/23 at 7:10 pm).

Two seasons ago, the South Korean star won the Premier League’s Golden Boot in Tottenham colours, alongside Mohammed Salah, by helping then-manager Antonio Conte to a Champions League finish.

But 12 months later, he ended the season with Spurs outside of Europe, Conte was sacked and ten Premier League goals to his game, including a hat-trick against relegated Leicester City.

For most parts, he struggled and it was evident to see, even though he tried to get the bad form out of his system.

But, ahead of the new Premier League campaign, Mackie is backing the 31-year-old to do the business.

“Son last year, he wasn’t the Son we know he can be,” said Mackie. “I expect him to be a lot better. If he gets anywhere near the level he was, then that’s a completely different player from what you saw last season.

“That brings the level up straightaway. The way this manager wants to set them up now, it does suit, far more, with the attacking players that they have got.

“Last year, we didn’t see the best of those players because of the shape that they played.”

If there is anyone that can match Harry Kane at Spurs, then it’s Son because he is very much liked by the fans.

Ever since his £22 million transfer in 2015 (FourFourTwo), he has wowed, not just his own fans, but the Premier League also.

It also needs to be noted, that he is on 103 Premier League goals and not many can claim to hit those figures in their careers.
