Roy Keane has laid into former Tottenham man, Serge Aurier, after he was sent off for the Ivory Coast during their 3-0 friendly defeat against England on Tuesday evening.

The outspoken TV pundit added that Aurier hasn’t learnt his lessons from his days at Tottenham and he is a ‘complete and utter waste of time’, as he told ITV Sport (29/03/22 at 11:35 pm).

During his time at Spurs, Aurier was infamous for his error-prone ways and erratic defending that just hasn’t left his game.

In the first half of yesterday’s encounter, he received two bookings, one after trying a Cryuff turn, failing and then proceeding to foul Jack Grealish.

To put it simply, it didn’t sit well with Keane when he watched back the footage of his sending off, as he blasted the 29-year-old’s actions.

“Certain players, it’s their football intelligence, it’s the height of stupidity,” said Keane.

“He deserves to go. We have seen it many times before and he clearly hasn’t learnt his lessons. Not learning about the game. Not maturing.

“He’s going to make the same mistakes over and over again. A complete and utter waste of time.”

In 2017, Tottenham paid PSG £23 million (BBC Sport) for Aurier’s talents and fans will probably wish that they didn’t.

Four years later, with still some time left on his contract, both parties, Spurs and the right-back, agreed to terminate his contract at the club.

That’s how bad things were for Aurier in north London and now he is plying his trade at La Liga outfit, Villarreal.

It’s pretty amazing that the Ivory Coast star is playing Champions League football, yet Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son are only playing domestic matches.
