Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has opened up on his future at the Santiago Bernabeu amid links to Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been frustrated so far in their attempts to strengthen the squad with the club missing out on Benjamin Sesko, who signed a new deal at RB Leipzig.
As well as this, the Gunners are interested in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi but have not been able to get a deal over the line as there is seemingly a reticence from the Spanish midfielder to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Riccardo Calafiori is the next name Arsenal are keen on but it appears a back up goalkeeper could well be their priority.
Lunin opens up on future
Andriy Lunin played a key role for Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid whilst Thibaut Courtois missed out due to an injury.
The Belgian goalkeeper got himself fit for the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, a match in which Madrid won 2-0.
As for Lunin, the Ukrainian goalkeeper will perhaps feel hard done by as he did not feature in the game at Wembley Stadium.
As per Fabrizio Romano on X, the goalkeeper was asked about his future at the Santiago Bernabeu, he said: “I want to stay, but my future is in the hands of the club. Courtois is one of the best but I want to play.”
A report from The Boot Room says that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have all made an enquiry for the goalkeeper.
Arsenal do not need another goalkeeper
If fans of the Gunners were asked what position on the pitch they do not need to strengthen in would probably be in goal.
With David Raya as the club’s number one, and Aaron Ramsdale as his backup, although the Englishman’s future remans uncertain, Arsenal would have more than enough quality.
The Gunners have to be smart with how they spend their money this summer, particularly with key areas of the pitch in need of strengthening this summer.
A new goalkeeper should not be the priority, even though RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulasci hailed Lunin as the ‘complete goalkeeper’.
