Matteo Guendouzi has told Telefoot that he wants William Saliba to leave Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and return to Marseille.

Central defender Saliba spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Marseille from Arsenal.

Midfielder Guendouzi also spent the past campaign on loan at the French club from Arsenal.

The 23-year-old France international midfielder has said that he wants his compatriot Saliba to be back at Marseille and will do everything he can to get the 21-year-old centre-back out of Arsenal this summer.

Guendouzi has said that he himself will stay at Marseille and is excited to play in the Champions League next season.

Guendouzi told Telefoot, as translated by GFFN: “William (Saliba) now has Marseille in his heart, and I’m sure that he’ll come back to Marseille next season. So I’m going to keep pushing so that he stays with us.”

Could William Saliba return to Marseille from Arsenal?

In our view, Arsenal are unlikely to let William Saliba leave for Marseille in the summer transfer window on a loan deal.

Yes, the £27 million defender (Sky Sports) has done well during his loan spell in France, but if the 21-year-old is to have a long-term future at Arsenal, then he needs to be at London Colney, training and working under Arteta on a daily basis.

Now, of course, we know that Ben White and Gabriel are the two main centre-backs at Arsenal, but the Gunners will play in the Europa League next season, so Saliba will get games.
