Glasgow Rangers have been linked with an audacious bid to bring Jermain Defoe to Ibrox this summer.

One of the most exciting transfer rumours that Rangers fans will have come across during the early stages of the summer was The Scottish Sun’s recent suggestion that new Gers boss Steven Gerrard wants to bring Jermain Defoe to Ibrox on a season-long loan deal.
Defoe may be in the twilight of his career, but he is undoubtedly one of the best goalscorers the Premier League has ever seen, and bringing the £65,000-a-week ace to Rangers this summer would unquestionably be a fantastic coup and statement of intent from the Light Blues.

Given how incredible a deal would be, the Gers perhaps need to prepare themselves in case they miss out on the striker by considering alternative targets for the upcoming campaign.
One player that they should therefore consider switching their attention to if the Defoe links go nowhere is Tammy Abraham, who now-former Swansea teammate Leon Britton suggested reminded him of Defoe in comments reported by BBC Sport in October 2017.

Abraham was superb during the early stages of his loan spell with the Swans, scoring five goals in his first 10 appearances for the club. Unfortunately, he was not able to be as prolific during the remaining months of the season and Swansea were ultimately relegated.
The campaign will have probably done little to boost his chances of establishing himself in the Chelsea first-team anytime soon, and that should tempt Rangers to make a move if signing Defoe is a no-go.
Abraham – who scored 23 goals in the Championship in 2016/17 – may appreciate the chance to play in the Scottish Premiership for a year, and playing for a club like the Gers will help prepare him for what he faces at Chelsea given the expectation that Gerrard’s men will have to cope with next term.
Though his time with Swansea did not prove as successful as it was threatening to be at one stage, the 20-year-old is someone who can be lethal in front of goal and is still learning, so could be an inspired loan addition this summer if they are unsuccessful in their attempts to land Defoe.
