Commons discusses Odsonne Edouard’s chances of permanent Celtic deal

Celtic have the opportunity to make Odsonne Edouard’s deal permanent at the end of the season.

Kris Commons has hinted to the Daily Mail that Odsonne Edouard needs to show even more if he wants to prove to Celtic that he deserves to earn a permanent move to Parkhead.

After a mixed start to life at Celtic, Edouard has stepped up significantly in recent weeks. He changed the game when he came on in the Scottish Cup tie with Morton last week, with the Hoops scoring all three of their goals after he was brought onto the pitch – with the 20-year-old rounding off the victory.

But that was nothing compared to his impact in Sunday’s Old Firm game at Ibrox. Brendan Rodgers threw the Frenchman on with 23 minutes to go with the Bhoys down to 10 men and seemingly needing to try and hold on with the score at 2-2.

However, Edouard – and clearly Rodgers – had other ideas as he scored the game’s winner two minutes after coming on with a stunning finish into the corner right in front of the Celtic fans. And while Commons was full of praise for the youngster’s impact, he suggested that it would still be a gamble for the Bhoys to make the move permanent for £7 million in the summer.

“What a day Edouard had, as well. He’d a huge impact when he came on against Morton last week and the same happened here,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I wouldn’t say he and Dembele have yet got a great understanding but there are certainly signs they can work on it and be formidable.

“Would Celtic pay the £7million for Edouard now? It’s still mostly potential, isn’t it? He’s still not played a massive amount of football and that’s a load of money for Celtic.”

While Commons has hinted that Edouard needs to do more to earn a permanent move to Parkhead, he is certainly giving himself the best chance to prove that he is good enough to become the club’s record signing.

He has made a devastating impact in the last two games and if he continues to prove the difference between now and the end of the season, then it will surely become extremely difficult for Rodgers to find a reason not to make the deal permanent.
