Liverpool target Andre Trindade won the Copa Libertadores on Saturday night amid claims he may have a verbal agreement with the Reds.

Liverpool fans would be forgiven for feeling excited after seeing Andre win the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense on Saturday night.

Many eyes turned to South America on Saturday night as Boca Juniors locked horns with Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro.

The CONMEBOL version of the Champions League took centre stage and a dramatic affair ended with Fluminense claiming a 2-1 win.

John Kennedy’s extra-time winner send Fluminense fans into delirium – and handed Andre a big title ahead of a potential Liverpool move.

Commentator comments on Andre to Liverpool

Liverpool fans have known of Andre for a while now and will have been watching him closely against Boca.

The Reds tried to sign Andre over the summer as a £26million bid was rejected back in August according to ESPN.

TEAMtalk add that a January move could materialise with Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt confirming Liverpool’s interest.

BBC commentator Steven Wyeth noted during coverage of the Copa Liberatadores final that Liverpool have a ‘very serious’ interest in signing Andre.

Wyeth even noted that there may already be a ‘verbal agreement’ in place for Andre to join Liverpool in January having missed out in the summer.

The lure of winning the Copa Libertadores tempted Andre into staying but, having achieved his dream, he may now be free to move to Anfield.

“Andre, the player who is of very serious interest to Liverpool, the Fluminense number seven, talk that a verbal agreement has already been reached for him to make the move to the Premier League, maybe as soon as January. Some thought that it might have happened during the summer transfer window if the promise of Fluminense winning this competition wasn’t as strong as it’s proved to be,” said Wyeth.

How did Andre performance in Copa Libertadores win?

Andre was outstanding in a holding midfield role for Fluminense, continuing to be outstanding in Fernando Diniz’s approach.

Globo Esporte rated Andre at 8 out of 10, but the public votes had him much, much higher at 9.6 out of 10.

They praised a showcase display from Andre, suggesting that he was ‘always very confident in marking’ in front of the Fluminense defence.

Globo Esporte added that Andre was just so good at breaking up play and starting Fluminense attacks, only taking a step back in extra-time.

That’s the kind of player Liverpool would love in holding midfield and they may well push for a deal after his trophy-winning success last night.
