Sky commentator Alan Smith has singled out Hugo Lloris for praise after his impressive performance for Tottenham Hotspur in their 4-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
While Tottenham dominated Palace, courtesy of a Harry Kane brace, as well as goals from Matt Doherty and Son Heung-min, Lloris managed to stand out as well.
In the 1st half, the French captain made a crucial save to keep out Jordan Ayew from close range, when the scores were tied at 0-0.
Even in the 2nd half, Hugo Lloris was called into action on a number of occasions by Crystal Palace, which merits commentator Alan Smith giving him his due credit.
However, the £100,000-a-week goalkeeper stood tall to every gilt-edged chance in admirable fashion.
Often, Lloris has been slated for his underwhelming displays and rightly so.
After the World Cup winner spilled a long-range shot to gift Emiliano Buendia a sitter against Aston Villa, Graeme Souness said he was ‘past his sell-by date’ (quoted by talkSPORT).
Souness also told Sky Sports before the game: “He is accident prone. At 36 they have to be looking elsewhere. I can’t say I’ve ever been his biggest fan. He’s made three mistakes that have led to goals.”
However, it seems as if the Spurs legend decided to hit back at such claims by doing his talking on the pitch.
Commentator praises Hugo Lloris for top showing for Tottenham in Crystal Palace win

Sky commentator Alan Smith was complimentary of Hugo Lloris, who stepped up for Tottenham Hotspur on plenty of instances in their 4-0 win against Crystal Palace.
“[Hugo] Lloris is determined to keep his clean sheet. After that mistake against Villa, he has bounced back with some really top saves”, the commentator said on Sky Sports.
Lloris must maintain the standard he set tonight
There is no denying that Hugo Lloris has been a superb goalkeeper for Tottenham over the years.
But performances such as the one against Crystal Palace, which he was duly praised for by commentator Alan Smith have become a rarity for Lloris, who is partial to a blunder far too often.
Now, the onus is on the Frenchman to ensure that he maintains such a top standard, as the world knows he is well capable of it.
Fair play to Hugo Lloris, who deserved the praise he received for his fantastic performance against Crystal Palace.
