West Ham United fans on Twitter have provided mixed views as they have been linked with a move for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.
The Daily Mail have claimed that the Hammers are keen on the London-based defender, who hasn’t featured for Frank Lampard’s side this season.
It is said that West Ham would want to sign the 27-year-old powerhouse, but are wary that their neighbours will draw them into potential negotiations for star man Declan Rice.
Rudiger, who has 31 caps for Germany [transfermarkt], would fit the bill at the London Stadium, push himself into the starting XI, elevate a leaky defence and add much-needed depth at the back for David Moyes.
West Ham fans are mixed on the rumours, there is a section who feel that he would be a worthy addition, but others, like the report states, are unsure because of the Rice issue.
Either way, those in East London need a lift of some sort because the anger from the club’s decision to sell Grady Diangana is still being heard today.
West Ham’s record transfers
- Sebastien Haller
£45 million
- Felipe Anderson
£41.5 million
- Marko Arnautovic
£25 million
- Pablo Fornals
£24 million
- Issa Diop
£22 million
Moyes has a squad of players who are top-heavy in the final third and if they don’t push for a defenders signature before Monday’s deadline then it could come to bite them in the back.
Whilst West Ham cannot push for the signature of any player that gets presented to them, this potential deal for Rudiger could turn out to be a smart move if it happens.
